Are You Ready for the Community Choice Energy Tsunami?
Community Choice Energy programs put local governments in charge of purchasing electricity for their residents and businesses. In California, they have focused on procuring far more renewable energy than PG&E currently provides. Marin's and Sonoma's programs are operational, and San Francisco's begins to ramp up this Spring. Meanwhile, San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties have each created their own Community Choice programs. What does this explosion of new programs mean for CALSEIA members, and how can our members profitably participate in existing and newly formed programs?
Bruce Karney, a solar industry veteran and environmental activist, will moderate a panel consisting of Melody Tovar, Regulatory Programs Division Manager for the City of Sunnyvale, and Greg Brehm, Director of Power Resources at Marin Clean Energy.

Melody Tovar
Regulatory Programs Division Manager, City of Sunnyvale
Melody is a Division Manager with the City of Sunnyvale’s Environmental Services Department. Her division implements services in support of the department’s utility functions with an emphasis on the City’s sustainability initiatives and water resource. Since 2014, Ms. Tovar has led the multi-jurisdictional partnership to bring a Community Choice Energy program to Silicon Valley. Ms. Tovar has more than 20 years of experience in developing, implementing, and managing environmental programs for municipal agencies. Ms. Tovar has a Bachelors Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Stanford University and is a California registered professional engineer.
Greg Brehm
Director of Power Resources, Marin Clean Energy
Greg Brehm has been Marin Clean Energy's Director of Power Resources for four years. His responsibilities include resource planning, procurement, contract negotiation and portfolio integration, local project development, permitting and interconnection support and power contract settlements. Prior to that, he directed California solar project development for OPDE. Earlier in his career he was operations manager and senior consultant for two Joint Powers Authorities/irrigation districts and water agencies managing direct access power scheduling and settlements throughout California.
