In March, SMUD proposed a new fee for solar customers ($32-$44 on average for residential). The fee would have negated the cost-effectiveness of solar and crippled the industry in the region. In response, CALSSA, member companies, and allies launched an outreach campaign, and SMUD rescinded the proposal. SMUD now plans to reevaluate the benefits of customer-sited solar and put forward a new proposal.
Over the next few months, CALSSA is launching a campaign to ensure that the new proposal is fair to customers, the industry, and wider community. Come to a special campaign planning meeting to discuss how we can win! Our success will be built on an industry-wide effort to show the board members the real value of customer-sited solar and storage. We look forward to seeing you there!
