Outreach & Membership Coordinator 
Job Description

California’s oldest and largest clean energy business group, the California Solar & Storage Association (CALSSA), is hiring a full-time Outreach & Membership Coordinator. Under the leadership of the Deputy Director, the primary goal of the Outreach & Membership Coordinator is to assist in CALSSA's membership, events, and outreach efforts, and help run day-to-day activities of the organization with the overarching goal of strengthening and growing distributed solar and energy storage in California.

The Outreach &Membership Coordinator reports to the Deputy Director and works closely with the entire CALSSA team to assist in strengthening the organization more broadly to better serve our members.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Membership Recruitment & Retention

  • Maintain close contact with current members throughout the year. Identify issues of importance for members and make sure they are engaged, are getting the information they need to help their business, and are aware of CALSSA events.

  • Manage onboarding of new members. Guide them on how to make the most of their new membership. Learn about their business and what they need to succeed.

  • Lead and maintain the membership renewal process. Set up consistent communication plans to reach members that are up for renewal, working with the Deputy Director to create "Back-on-Board" campaigns for expired members, and work to get updated payment information from members with failed monthly installments.

  • Assist the Deputy Director as needed with organizing meetings and phone calls to both recruit new member targets and keep current members engaged.

  • Keep up to date on the campaigns and activities of CALSSA and new resources that become available to our members, guiding members to people and materials that are useful to them.

Database Management

  • Improve the accuracy and efficiency of CALSSA’s data systems. 

  • Manage CALSSA’s CRM tool, NEON. Keep records up-to-date, accurate, and relevant. Consistently add activity notes.

  • Manage member lists, including email lists via MailChimp, committee lists via Google Groups, and others.

  • Prepare reports on various analytics as needed.

Events

  • Help with event production, finding event locations and organizing logistics, as needed.

  • Recruit for events, including phone banking to turn out members, and identify non-member recruitment targets to invite.

  • Attend all CALSSA events and provide day-of event coordination and support.

  • Help produce webinars. Manage registration, coordinate with sponsors, and follow up with attendees.

Member Mobilization & Political Action

  • Set-up "contact your legislator" campaigns via CongressWeb.

  • Generate up-to-date legislative district lists of members with Geocodio.

  • Coordinate with legislators' campaigns to recruit our members to their events.

Communications

  • Assist with social media, working with the Deputy Director and the Marketing Director.

  • Work with the Marketing Director to maintain member benefits on our website.

  • Coordinate monthly Member Spotlight eBlast, working with Marketing Director.

  • Coordinate email campaigns to recruitment targets, working with the Deputy Director and the Marketing Director.

  • Set up SurveyMonkey surveys and drive participation.

Organizational

  • Answer CALSSA main phone line and manage phone tree. Manage info@ email account.

  • Assist Executive Director on specific projects.

  • Other administrative tasks as needed.

EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS

  • Candidates must have a proven ability to work as part of a small team and a strong desire to grow clean energy in California. 

  • A strong candidate will have excellent people skills, communication skills, and stellar administrative and computer skills. 

  • Ability to learn and use multiple software programs is essential. 

  • Must be highly organized and a fast learner, with excellent follow-through and project management skills.

  • Candidate must be comfortable on the phone and will be expected to make and receive many phone calls daily. Excellent customer service skills are required.

  • Must be willing to travel.

COMMITMENT & LOCATION

Position is available immediately. A minimum two-year commitment is required. The position is based in the Bay Area or Sacramento, but other locations will be considered.
