CALSSA Policy Advocate
Job Description
The goal of CALSSA’s Policy Advocate is to help animate markets for customer-sited solar energy and energy storage in California with state-level policy development. The advocate will represent distributed energy resource providers at the California Public Utilities Commission, the California Legislature, and other venues. Areas of focus may include virtual power plants, rate design, and state planning to reach 100% renewable energy.
The Policy Advocate works closely with the Executive Director, the Board of Directors, the Policy Committee, and various subcommittees. The position must be based in California.
Position Responsibilities
Advocacy & Policy Development
Represent CALSSA at the CPUC
Help track relevant CPUC activity related to distributed solar and energy storage
Coordinate with active member companies to develop CALSSA positions
Compose filings and attend stakeholder meetings
Meet with Commissioners and staff
Support legislative initiatives
Recommend policy details for sponsored legislation
Help analyze bills
Provide policy analysis for legislative staff and at committee hearings
Interact with CALSSA members
Facilitate internal CALSSA decision making on priority matters
Explain details of programs and tariffs to member companies
Produce factsheets and website updates
Attend regional meetings
Building Public Support
Translate and communicate the importance of legislative and regulatory decisions to CALSSA membership, elected officials, and media through press releases, fact sheets, blogs, and opinion pieces
Engage allies and work with coalition partners
Speak at conferences and public meetings
Organizational Development
Work with membership staff to recruit member companies
Help with fundraising efforts to support non-profit association
Attend team meetings, board meetings, and strategy development retreats
Experience
A strong candidate will be committed to the growth of the California solar PV, solar thermal, and energy storage industry. They will have excellent communication and advocacy skills, an ability to work as part of a team, and a knowledge of or desire to quickly learn regulatory policy details related to the growth of distributed solar and storage in California. Regulatory experience and experience within the solar and storage industry are a plus but not a prerequisite.
COMMITMENT & LOCATION
Position is available immediately. A minimum two-year commitment is required. The position is based in the Bay Area or Sacramento, but other locations will be considered.
COMPENSATION PACKAGE
